Research Portfolio Development

The entry point for students who want structured support pulling their research and project work into a coherent, presentable portfolio — the connective layer that ties individual projects together into a single body of work.

What students work on:

  • Organizing existing research, projects, and writing into a unified portfolio

  • Selecting and sequencing work to tell a clear, coherent story

  • Writing framing statements and project summaries

  • Formatting and presentation for review or submission

Great fit if: a student has several pieces of work in progress or already completed and needs help shaping them into something cohesive.

Independent Research Projects

Structured guidance for students undertaking an original research project — from forming a research question through to a finished paper. Mentors help students scope a project that's ambitious but achievable, and stay on track through each stage of the process.

What students work on:

  • Narrowing a topic into a focused, answerable research question

  • Literature review and source evaluation

  • Research methodology and structuring findings

  • Drafting, revising, and citing a formal research paper

Great fit if: a student wants to pursue a self-directed research project but needs structure, pacing, and feedback along the way.

Passion Projects

Support for students developing a long-term project around a genuine personal interest — whether that's a creative endeavor, a community initiative, a technical build, or something harder to categorize. The goal is depth and follow-through, not a prescribed format.

What students work on:

  • Defining a project scope and realistic milestones

  • Sustaining momentum over weeks or months

  • Documenting process and progress along the way

  • Shaping the finished project into something presentable

Great fit if: a student has an interest they want to pursue seriously outside the classroom but needs accountability and planning support to see it through.

Publication Preparation

Focused guidance for students preparing research, essays, or creative work for submission to a journal, publication, or platform — covering both the writing itself and the mechanics of the submission process.

What students work on:

  • Revising work to meet a target publication's standards and scope

  • Formatting and citation requirements

  • Understanding submission guidelines and review processes

  • Identifying suitable journals, platforms, or publications for the work

Great fit if: a student has a finished or near-finished piece of research or writing and wants help getting it submission-ready.

College Application Portfolio Development

Support for students assembling the research, projects, and creative work that will accompany a college application — organizing a body of work so it reflects a clear, authentic narrative alongside the rest of the application.

What students work on:

  • Selecting which projects and work samples best represent the student

  • Organizing and formatting a portfolio for application submission

  • Writing project descriptions and framing statements

  • Aligning portfolio content with the student's broader application story

Great fit if: a student is applying to programs or colleges that request a portfolio, or wants their research and project work to reinforce their application narrative.

Build Your Portflio

Colleges and competitions increasingly look past the transcript for evidence of initiative — work a student pursued because they cared about it, not because it was assigned. Our Research & Portfolio Development programs help students identify a genuine area of interest, structure a real project around it, and shape the result into something they can point to: a paper, a portfolio, a submission, an application.
